Idea's for magazine advert (Group)

Idea's for magazine advert

We have many different idea's for our Magazine advert that we want to include. We want to make it

Joe Fisher's idea:
I wanted to keep it simplistic but also retain a professional look. I got my inspiration from art processes which i like to do at home (Ink in water) and decided to represent the fire and flames from the two colours which are commonly associated with it, red and yellow. There are a few differentiation's from the first idea to the second idea, this was not a response to feedback by just remembering what i had to add. I added star rating symbols that have a tint of yellow with a quote beneath it from the times, as well as this, i placed in the to bottom corners places where to buy the single from. i wanted to put them side by side to see what i liked most here, and i think the developments on advert 2 make the focal point of the advert a bit more obvious. I also took in to account many design choices, such as magazine adverts are usually transformed in to buy-able posters, and i can definitely imagine this being a poster to promote Bastille. i also included their signature triangle instead of the A for the extra authenticity and image promotion. I will take in to account these ideas when designing a mock digipak as well, as the two's designs tend to relate somewhat as part of a package.

When creating the magazine poster I considered three things. Genre, links to the artist and relation to the target audience. The location is what I first considered as it is the body of the advert. I needed to find a location which was both relevant to Indie-pop and the narrative of the music video as links to the products and the music video are essential. In the music video we film in a wooded area as well as a field. Places in which you can see a lot of nature. These locations are commonly used in Indie-pop music video all of the time as they create a mysterious feel to the music video. So for the magazine advert I chose the location to be the background as it is both viewed in the music video as well as a generic convention of Indie-pop. In Indie-pop products as a whole you usually don’t see the artist/s in them or if they are they are usually not fully seen. This is for two reasons, the first is that they don’t promote themselves as much as mainstream artists and also adds to the mysterious vibe which is frequently used in indie-pop. With links to the artist, in the other product I produced, the digipak, I have used the same text. This is to create intertextuality and show that when the audience sees the text they will know it’s from my artist. I have also used the same image in the digipak. This is to create a bond between the products so that the audience know that they are both promoting the same product as well as themselves. The font of the artists is bigger than any other text on the magazine advert. This is so that it is the first thing the audience’s eyes see. This means that if they only briefly see the magazine advert they’ll know that it was from Bastille. For relating the magazine poster to the target audience I have added an image of a young man who is supposed to be portraying the lead singer of the band.  He is purposely young for the reason that the target audience is also young. This means that the target audience will be able to connect to the artist more. I have also used the Spotify and apple music icon in both bottom corners, so that I can relate to the target audience even further. Spotify and apple music are two common platforms in which young people view their music. These are the platforms in which are target audience use.

By all of our group members participating in this activity, it has given us a variety of ideas for what our actual product may look like in the near future.

I chose to use this photo of a bonfire in order for it to be relatable to the title of the song, it makes more sense to have this kind of image. I then added the text and chose this font because it is very simple and that is something that is a generic convention of the indie rock genre. They have very low budget and simple things in the genres art and videos so i wanted to make something similar to that in order to relate to the generic conventions. I also added the twitter and website link because that is what is included in a lot of magazine adverts and i wanted to make it look as authentic as possible.

For my magazine advert i wanted to make sure that we had a strong link of fire on the advert.
